Description

You are
buying a circulated roll of 50 Five Yen (¥5) coins straight from the
bank.
This roll of ¥5 coins contain a
variety of dates from recently to decades ago under the previous emperors.
This most
recent issue of the 5 yen coin (
五円硬貨
,
Go-en kōka
) began
minting in 1959 using the new script.
The
front of the coin depicts rice growing in water with 5 yen written in Kanji
(Japanese characters).
The back has
Japan and the date minted in Japanese.
This is the ONLY Japanese coin used today which does not have Arabic
numerals on either side.
Each coin
weighs 3.75 grams, measures 22mm in diameter, and is 1.5mm thick.
It is made of 65 percent copper and 35
percent zinc.
The ¥5 coin is considered a lucky coin in Japan.  I have also seen these coins
intricately
tied together to form hot pot holders and ever a suit of Japanese armor.
